This beautiful addition to the northwest corner of the lawn came in a three year process. The owner was working in her garden when a worker replacing the telephone poles offered assistance to the hole she was digging. She didn't need help, but she did ask what they do with the telephone poles they were cutting down. He replied they cut the 30 foot poles into chunks to go to the dump. Her creativity sparked when she asked if she could have them. Eager to save themselves some work, the phone company crew gladly dropped the telephone poles into the garden. In the years to follow, what began as a wood version of Stonehenge to passersby has become a great beautification to the yard. From lounging in hammock chairs to hosting lantern lit dinners beneath the flower covered boughs, the pergola has become a spotlight of the home. Currently each pole has a different flowering plant working its way up. In a few years, the entire "roof" should be covered with fragrant, beautiful blooms.
The pergola spans 48 feet in length, opening to a "room" that measures 18' x 30'.
